The Engine

The new Grand Cherokee L has the same two engine options as the regular Grand Cherokee. The base powertrain is a 3.6-liter V-6 that puts out 290 horsepower and gets 257 pound-feet of torque, while the optional 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 delivers 357 horsepower and will generate 390 pound-feet of torque. Jeep’s Torqueflitte eight-speed automatic transmission comes with both engines. Rear-wheel drive comes standard with the V-6 and the V-8 getsĀ Jeep’s four-wheel-drive system.

The Trims

There are several trims to choose from. The entry-level Grand Cherokee L is the Laredo. It comes with LED reflector headlights, automatic headlights, and daytime running lights. It also has LED taillights, a roof rack, and power-adjustable side mirrors. Stepping up to the Limited gets you upgraded LED fog lights and a power liftgate. Upgrading to the Overland adds a two-speed transfer case, chrome exterior trim elements, 20-inch wheels, tow hooks, and a hands-free power liftgate. The Overland also adds LED exterior lighting.

At the top of the lineup, the Summit has a gloss black roof, a roof rack with silver rails, and 20-inch polished black wheels.

The Technology

The 2021 Grand Cherokee L comes standard with the Uconnect 5 infotainment system with a 10.1-inch display featuring an 8.4-inch touch screen. It also has several USB ports, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, satellite radio, Amazon Alexa, and HD radio. Even the base Grand Cherokee L has 12 USB ports, including both type A and type C. The Limited adds a 115-volt power outlet, and the Summit upgrades to a 10.1-inch touch screen.

The Cabin Features

There’s room for up to seven in the Grand Cherokee L. It has tip-and-slide second-row captain’s chairs to make it easy to access the third row, and stepping up to the Limited adds leather upholstery, memory settings for the driver’s seat, and heated first and second-row seating. The Overland upgrades again to Nappa leather, and it adds power-folding seats in the second and third rows. It also comes with ventilated front seats, a power tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, and wood trim elements.

Safety Features

The Grand Cherokee L has a full lineup of safety aids. It comes standard with adaptive cruise control, a blind-spot monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-centering assist, front and rear automatic braking, and forward-collision warning. It also offers a night vision camera with pedestrian and animal detection and an intersection collision assist system.

The 2021 Grand Cherokee L will fit more passengers than the standard Grand Cherokee, and it has more tech and an upgraded cabin for everyone to ride in.
